The Itinerary
Denali (6,190 m), formerly Mt. McKinley, is North America's highest peak. Denali National Park (24,500 km²) hosts the "Big Five": grizzly bears, wolves, caribou, moose and Dall sheep.
The Park Road (148 km) is only accessible by park bus (except first 24 km). Wonder Lake offers the iconic summit view (visible only 1 day in 3 due to clouds). En route from Anchorage: Talkeetna (hippie village from which summit expeditions launch), Hatcher Pass (scenic road). In Anchorage, humpback whale watching in summer.
