The Itinerary

Yellowstone — the world's first national park (1872) — covers 8,983 km² over an active volcanic caldera. From Bozeman, the north entrance via Gardiner and the Roosevelt Arch leads to Mammoth Hot Springs and its limestone terraces.

The internal Grand Loop Road strings together legendary sites: Norris Geyser Basin (hottest), Grand Prismatic Spring (America's largest hot spring, 110 m across, psychedelic colours), Upper Geyser Basin with Old Faithful — erupting every 90 minutes — and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone with its ochre cliffs carved by the river.

Lamar Valley to the east is nicknamed "America's Serengeti": bison, wolf, bear and moose viewing. The southern route then descends into Grand Teton National Park and Jackson Hole, where the Teton range rises vertically from the Snake River valley — one of the American West's most iconic landscapes.
