Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore on Michigan's Upper Peninsula hosts 24 km of multicolored sandstone cliffs (minerals and tannins) plunging 60 m into Lake Superior's turquoise waters.
The cliffs are best seen by boat (2–3h cruise from Munising). Chapel Loop Trail (15 km) along the cliffs with Chapel Beach. Miners Castle, iconic rock formation. En route stops: Mackinac Bridge (5 km, one of America's longest suspension bridges), Tahquamenon Falls (2nd-largest waterfall east of the Mississippi).
